No, it's not necessary to use the chopping facility. In fact, it's only recommended for 24 V coils.
Do I need to enable the chopping facility in a contactor coil rated at 48 V and a system voltage of 48 V? Sevcon 24/48V 600A Dual-M Controller w/Options 63147005
