The charger is automatic and does not have external controls. In PowerDrive vehicles, the charger will shut off to run a self-diagnostic program, indicated by the ammeter dropping to zero, after the charging begins. The charging will resume after a few moments and the ammeter returns to previous charge rate.
The automatic shut-off feature is designed to prevent undercharging or overcharging.
The vehicle has a dash mounted warning light found above the steering column.
The battery LIGHTS UP:
- when the charger DC cord is unplugged during a charging cycle.
- for 10 seconds if the charge is less than 90% but the vehicle has enough power for 60 minutes of operation.
- repeatedly for 10 seconds at 4 second intervals if the charger times out at 16 hours and the batteries are not sufficiently charged.
- repeatedly for 10 seconds at 4 second intervals while charging if AC power to the charger is interrupted. This stops when AC power is restored.
The battery WILL NOT LIGHT UP:
- if the charge reaches 90% or when the charging process is complete.
